Question Worth getting...

Hi guys new to the site and guild wars. I been debating on purchasing gw from offgamers website the trilogy plus eye of the north expansion. You guys think is worth getting it for the achievement before gw2 is out? My wife and I will get a copy.

Thanks.

There's still plenty of fun to be had for a new GW player.
Just don't expect scores of people standing in outposts waiting to do the mission/quest you need to accomplish.

Heroes(and a wife) will be more reliable than Random people anyway.

Just linking an account in the Hall Of Monuments will get you some Gear for GW2 with lots of other goodies not far behind that.
It's cheap, its big,its pretty and its a very different playstyle than any other games ive played.

Buy!

Another Husband and wife team posted here recently doing exactly what you propose and they seem to be having a great time.
Still a fun game and many people still play.

In recent times the multiplayer aspect has dropped off being confined to new players still working their way through the basic storyline quests.
As you can understand players who have been in the game a long time are kind of been there done that, so they tend to play with ai teams of heroes to complete their hall of monument tasks.

This is not a problem a team of two live players is well placed to complete the game and have fun doing it.
If you can find a guild that can help you even better if not there are plenty of people on the forum who will guide you if your stuck.

Nice! and thank you for the info guys. Will it make it easier if I had the Trilogy and Eye of the North over having just Prophecies and eye of the north?

if your getting the trilogy, i suggest you start in nightfall.
that campaign goes faster then prophecies and you get your heroes.
it makes the game easier and more fun.

Its useful to have all in the series because then you have access to every skill and all the character classes.

Each of the games let you create the original guild wars character classes, the 2 follow up games give you those and let you create 2 more classes.

Factions gives you the Assassin and Ritualist.
Nightfall gives you Paragon and Dervish.

In addition its not much of a spoiler to say that there are many powerful "elite" skills to find and these are scattered across all the games should you need one of these to set up a particular build its very annoying to find its in a game you do not own.

For sure, get all the games. Not being able to have certain skills from certain campaigns will hurt you in the long run.

there is plenty to do, and yes, get all 3 (the trilogy)..probably cheaper than just getting one right now anyways....and yes, playing with your spouse (my hubby got me started on gw) is a lot of fun.
so welcome to guildwars!

Definitely worth it, and welcome to the wonderful world of GW

On a side note; why do people always recommend starting in Nightfall? Heroes are good, only if you can give them decent builds (the gear doesn't matter much in Normal Mode, I agree with that). You can't expect new players to have a lot of skills unlocked. And even if they have their skills unlocked, a new player usually doesn't have the experience to make a good build for every profession.

So I suggest you start in Prophecies. Sure, it's slow paced, but since everything is new to you, that shouldn't be problem^^. After prophecies you should have some more experience with builds and team synergy, so then you can start Nightfall to get your heroes and tweak them to your playstyle. Well, that's just my 2 cents

Having someone to play with will stave off the self harm boredom (Doctor Who reference).

30/50 isn't that bad. There's plenty of guilds working on Hall of Monuments (HoM) or what you uninitiated lot call "achievements".

My advice is to use henchmen in Eye of the North (EoTN) unless you have proper hero builds and to use monk heroes from Nightfall in Prophecies and Factions. Factions' henchmen monks are particularly bad.

If you ever need any help whatsover PM me ingame, Vital Infusion. I don't do handouts (tried that) but I can definitely help you with stuff like builds ("skillsets" for heroes) or Black Widow Spider/ Black Moa capping (+1 point for HoM).

I think people were recommending me to start with Nightfall just to make sure that we are able to do runs and difficult quest with our heroes. Not sure how many hard quest I might have before I get my M.O.X. the Golem hero. But most likely I will be with my wife questing too so maybe just the two of us can handle things right. Normally I play the tank version and she plays the healer type but who knows what she might decide to play in this game.

yep prophecies... all you get now are people who want to speed thru things. start with propheices.. it's the only part with a decent storyline. once you get to lions arch, you can get to other places and unlock heros. then finish prophecies, factions, nf and eotn in that order. just the 1st time thru and then play whatever to unlock whatever you want to try next. also join a decent guild. guilds will help you a lot that will make things go smoother. remember... /wiki xxxxx
in game type /wiki armor for info on armor etc.

Time for a little more information not too much, more fun if you find stuff yourself.

Firstly character class choice, your secondary class you can eventually change and in fact can change it at will once you have reached a certain point in the game.
Try out all the secondary classes even if your sure of what you want to take.
its free experience points and unlocks skills.
When you have tried them all then make your semi permanent choice this one will be with you for quite a while.

Prophesies first game in the series western european style slow character development eases you into the game quite well.
Factions second game Asian in style faster development
Nightfall North African imo style game even faster development and the Hero system.

Henchmen ai help with preset skills and equipment.
Heroes start with a basic skill set and weapon you can customise their skills and weapons from any skills you have unlocked on your own character.

Initially they will be worse than henchmen later on they will become a collection of max level ai heroes fine tuned for your use.

Normaly I agree, but not now. Today I recommend start in Nightfall so you can participiate Halloween fest http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Halloween_2011 and see Mad King appearances in Kamadan.
If you start in Prophecies this can take several days to travel to Lions Arch for first time player.

Good idea Sirds they could start a character in Nightfall to have some halloween fun today.

Still start another character in game of choice to play the game and the nf character isn't wasted as they have 8 character slots each.

in fact nothing wrong with starting several characters they can have one that they always use together and another that is good when only one is playing.
